Perhaps shown bombing a forest in Oregon in September 1942.
Reconnassance floatplane designed in Japan in 1937, and in service by
1941.
It was designed to be dis-assembled and stored in a cylinder built
on the deck of
certain Japanese submarines. When the floatplane was needed, the submarine
surfaced:
The wings, fins and floats were re-attached, and the airplane was launched
from the catapult
that was also built onto the deck of the sub. Over 100 of these floatplanes
were made.
Other major powers experimented with similar sub-carried recon seaplanes.
It had 2 seats (pilot & observer?), and was armed with a 7.7mm machine
gun
and could carry light bombs. (One of these floatplanes did attempt
to start forest fires
in Oregon with a couple of bombs in September 1942.)
It had a maximum speed of about 150 mph and an economical crusing speed of 100 mph.
