Bertrille's Mission

  by Dennis Clark
The mission is her clinic on an isolated island in the
Spontoon Archipelago, Nimitz Sea,
Pacific Ocean.

"This is Sister Bertrille, a Belgian nun who runs a small clinic
on one of the isolated outer islands of the Spontoon Archipelago
(circa 1931).
She is a trained Registered Nurse, in addition to being a nun. They probably have a circuit priest
who comes around every month or so to check up on her progress, bring supplies,
and conduct mass.  I would say the natives almost worship Bertrille for the good she's done."

"A year after Sister Bertrille assumed her position in the native village,
she mysteriously disappeared.  Search efforts proved fruitless,
and it was assumed that she had died or been killed by the natives.
And yet, rumors persisted for decades of a 'white queen' of this tribe.
"

According to Dennis, she has adopted some of the native remedies....
She still considers herself a nun, still is religiously devoted, and yet has adopted native ways.
So, she may still be chaste and pray as much, but she still blends in with the natives.

"She would never abuse them in her position as ‘queen’ and probably thinks the title is a little silly."

The Spontoon Archivist believes that some of the members of the Spontoon Althing
'Archipelago Health Sub-Committee' have discovered that she is still efficiently administrating the clinic,
and they quietly subsidize her access to Euro medicines and medical supplies (so she is less likely
to have to deal with smugglers and fringe traders). (Medicines are delivered monthly,
often by the famous red & purple 'Duck' floatplane of an Archipelago regional medical service.)
